Tim Boatswain is a Professor of Anthropology and History. After obtaining a first class degree in Ancient History and Archaeology, specialising in Byzantium, he went on to study Social Anthropology at the London School of Economics and Social Science. He has held academic posts at the universities of Birmingham, North London, Bedfordshire and Huddersfield, where he was Pro Vice-Chancellor. He has been a visiting lecturer/research fellow at the Barber Institute of Fine Arts, Professor Tim Boatswain Birmingham, Harvard University, USA, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, University of Southampton, The Queen’s University, Belfast and The Open University.
In 2001 he received the Honorary Citizenship of the historic town of Kastav in Croatia for his services to education. He was the first foreigner to be honoured in this manner.
He has published on a wide range of anthropological and historical subjects, specialising in the region of the East Mediterranean, including two ‘popular’ history books on Greece (published in six different languages) and Cyprus.
Since retiring from full-time academic posts in the UK and abroad, he has been invited to be the Chairman and Visiting Professor of TMC Academy, a higher education institution, based in Singapore, teaching UK university degrees in China, Singapore, Vietnam and Myanmar.
